Jessica Cao: is a brand that explores cultural identity by creating a space in which to explore who we are and who we want to be. This is a place where we process questions and understandings into visualisation.
Graduating from London College of Fashion, the personal experiences of the designer as part of a Chinese diaspora and grouped as a third culture kid has mainly focused on the emotional qualities of a cultural identity; in particular relations to the ideas of being a woman, ideologies, restriction, censorship, migration and belonging.
It is the raw quality of the concepts and emotions that translates to the aesthetics of fragility and strength, playing on the dark and the feminine.
A desire to create a separate realm to what we know and are comfortable with in which the above is explored.
